Catching up with the guys at IGN, Del Toro confirmed the rumors from last fall that he was eyeing a dark DC Comics team-up movie of sorts, at the time called "Heaven Sent." Now appropriately called "Dark Universe," it looks like the project is very much in motion. "I'm working on it. I'm writing the outline and we're already in talks with a writer. A very, very good writer. People are probably going to be happy with who we have chosen. He accepted. I've been courting this writer, who I think is the perfect guy for this job. We're doing it," he said.
"Hopefully it will happen... The movement for this happened before ['The Avengers']. They were already galvanized to launch 'Justice League' and they were galvanized to make their universe cohesive," he continued about Warner Bros.' history and plans for the project. "They are really, really, with ['Man Of Steel'], very, very confident with what they have. They are now feeling they have two pillars. Batman and Superman... There's a foundation that now they can build on."
Of course, Del Toro has a bajillion projects on his plate, so who knows if/when this will happen. Right now, he's slated to work on the TV series "The Strain" after "Pacific Rim," and then shoot his next feature, the throwback haunted house flick "Crimson Peak." [IGN]
