Internet Marketing - Why You Should Not Sell Via Your Ads

There?s a cardinal rule in all of advertising (both online and offline) that you absolutely don?t want to violate. Violating this rule will be the cause of your demise, and the cause of your immediately exit out of a failed business. Would you like to know what this ?cardinal rule? is? It?s simple? it?s trying to sell a product via an ad.

On the internet, this just won?t work. There?s not enough space to promote your entire product. So what should you do? You should drive all of your prospects to your website ? where you can display your full sales message. This can be a page that has the picture of your product on there along with some sales description, or even a squeeze page.

Just whatever you do, don?t try to sell your product via your ad. It?s ineffective, you don?t have enough room, you will find yourself cramping your ad just to fill it up with information, and you will totally miss the point behind ?lead generation?. What exactly is lead generation?

Lead generation is the process of driving someone to your website with the intent of signing up to your email newsletter. Once they sign up to your email newsletter, typically they will receive a freebie of some sort, and you should also give them the opportunity to buy your product via something called an ?OTO page?.

OTO stands for ?one time offer?. Alot of online business owners online actually hold true to the fact that after you see the one time offer? you will never see it again. And then there are other marketers where you can easily see the OTO page again, and actually try to buy it.

Lead generation is something that all online business owners should do. And it doesn?t matter what kind of business that you?re in. Virtually all online business owners can use lead generation in their business. You can offer free reports, free ebooks, free software, free consultations, free audios, free videos, and etc. There are alot of things that you can offer for free to get people to subscribe to your email newsletter.

After you generate the lead, then that?s when the real selling process begins. You can contact them regularly via email with tips and a pitch for your product at the end of it. There are alot of things that you can do with your own list. You can offer tele-seminars, get consistent sales, run joint ventures, and etc. The larger your list, the better.

Hopefully you see why you should never try to sell anything in your ad. If this was offline marketing, could you see any sense of trying to sell something in the small spot of a classified ad? This would look ridiculous right? But believe it or not, people do it everyday ? desperate for money, instead of having a sound and solid business plan to fall back on.

Take these tips and take my advice on not selling via ads, but instead gather leads from your lead generation efforts, and begin getting sales and finally profiting in your business.
